North America is a tourist Mecca with a vast array of stunning sights and places to visit. Wander the redwood forests of California, the high plains of the mid west, the deserts of the South east to the intoxicating metropolises on offer. Whether you decide to indulge in the pulsating city of New York, or ski the slopes of the Rockies, this is a continent that has a huge array of sights, activities likely to excite even the most avid of travellers.
The great outdoors; the endless road trips, Route 66 amongst them; the sheer beauty and diversity ensures that this kaleidoscope of people, cities, vistas, sights and sounds is hard to beat. Arthur Miller, a legendary author and playwright alluded to this beauty often and highlighted the fact that immigrants and high flyers alike were overwhelmed by the variety on offer with its dazzling and interesting attractions.
The 51 states that make up North America enjoy unparallel diversity with cultural and natural wonders alike with forests that cover huge tracts of the continent while the cities of Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Miami and the stunning San Francisco all brimming with their own attractions, sights and sounds. Look into the Midwest and discover towns like Austin that offer a music scene which offer an alternative and eclectic mix of sounds and beats from Blue Grass to Savannah. Other cities stick out noticeably San Francisco for its laid back, outdoor and European influence to the fast and furious cities of Las Vegas and LA where entertainment exists 24 x 7.
When one considers budgetary considerations for travel to the US, it is possible to budget accordingly and stick to it but likewise it is very easy to spend considerably more if you are not careful. The big cities will cost you dearly and it is unlikely that even the thriftiest of travellers will get away with spending less than $90 a day and the average spend is typically closer to $250. This will enable you to hire a car, eat 3 solid meals a day, hotel accommodation and some ancillary tourist related activity such as sightseeing etc.
The alternative more affordable option involves camping or staying in hostels. In the cities you should be careful which hostel you choose as many are used to house the homeless. The likelihood is that you won't need a car to travel around the major cities however outside them it is a must as the true beauty of America is seen across its vast, varied and beautiful countryside. Travelling light is also a good idea and buying clothes and other items is relatively affordable in the states with the numerous outlets dotted around the major road inlets. Affordable prices on top brands are the norm and it is a great and affordable way to replenish your wardrobe and experience retail America and its best and probably worst.
