This annual arts festival established in 1933 is one of the oldest arts events in Italy and one of the most celebrated in the European Union. The "Teatro Comunale" , comprising the musical focus in Florence, hosts the Maggio Musicale. This event, currently celebrating its 74th edition, will be held throughout May and June this year.
Florence's most important music event allures waves of viewers to the "Teatro Comunale", formerly an open-air venue, every year. They owe their success to the talented artists and instrumentalists that are invited to the Maggio Musicale every year. The Tuscany Regional Orchestra regularly performs at this prestigious event, and top artists such as Paul Hindemith, Bela Bart?k, Luigi Nono, Karlheinz Stockhausen and Luciano Berio, amongst others have performed their own music there. The legendary Luciano Pavarotti was amongst those that have performed in previous editions of the Maggio Musicale, Florence. Notorious filmmakers, painters and sculptors of such standing as Max Reinhardt, Gustav Gr?ndgens and Luchino Visconti, amongst others have also been called upon as set and costume designers.
The pretty Boboli Gardens and the beautiful Signoria Square comprise the set for the Maggio Musicale festival, and hosts the various performances during the hot summer months. This is a great opportunity to see some of the world's most talented artists perform in this
