The beautiful isle of Mauritius will delight you with its crystal-clear turquoise waters, white sand beaches and island charm. The inhabitants speak English so you will have no problems conversing with the locals if you take your holidays to Mauritius.

One of the many gorgeous beaches on the island is Belle Mare. Belle Mare is protected by a coral reef which makes it great for swimming, snorkeling and kayaking. An unique experience for tourists at Belle Mare is the undersea walk. You put on a weight belt and a diving helmet and have the opportunity to walk on the seabed while tropical fish come and visit. Oxygen is piped in to your helmet as you walk along feeding the fish. If you stay at the Belle Mare Beach Mauritius Hotel you also have complimentary use of two championship 18-hole golf courses.

Another unique opportunity is taking a ride on "Le Nessee", a semi-submersible craft which goes out on one-hour trips from Grand-Baie. You can witness fantastic views of marine life and coral reefs. Revelling in the comfort of an air-conditioned glass-bottomed boat you will enjoy the thrill of seeing things usually reserved for snorkelers.

Mauritius is a volcanic island and has a spectacular mountain range if you prefer hiking or climbing. The most popular hike is on Le Pouce which is part of the Moka range. This hike takes three hours and gives you a magnificent 360 degree island view. Pieter Both is one of the highest mountains and is more difficult. It takes 9 hours and is more suitable for experienced hikers. A moderate climb suitable for most hikers is Corps du Garde.

To shop, see local color and mingle with the islanders take a trip to Flacq Market. This is the largest outdoor market in Mauritius. Some of the things you can find are local fruits and vegetables, herbal teas, herbs, spices, vanilla, flowers, colorful baskets, clothing and colorful straw hats.

Head on over to the SSR Botanical Garden near Port Louis to visit the Southern Hemisphere's oldest botanical garden. The gardens were created in 1770 and cover over 91 acres. SSR is famous for the giant water lilies and has over 80 varieties of palm trees.

There is so much to do on Mauritius that you will have trouble choosing. By taking your holidays to Mauritius you will have the chance to explore, relax, be enchanted and take home lasting memories.
