February fourteenth. It seems to come round sooner every year. Whether you've been happily married for years, or just met the perfect partner, why not celebrate the day for lovers in the romantic setting of a foreign city this year? Here are ten top travel ideas to help you make Valentine's Day 2011 truly special.

Athens

Enjoy a classical day of love in Greece, the country Cupid himself calls home. Explore beautiful monuments like the hilltop Parthenon, and fall under the spell of Aphrodite, the Greek Goddess of Love, as you dine on hearty Greek cuisine after the sun sets in this ancient capital.

Barcelona

With something to suit everyone's taste, Barcelona is the perfect destination for a sweet weekend away or a high energy party trip. For couples, its colourful markets and stunning beaches provide the ideal Mediterranean setting for fun and intimacy.

Las Vegas

Of course, the ultimate party town is Las Vegas, Nevada. A Disneyland for adults in the centre of the desert, it's great for a Valentine's Day with a difference. And if you're lucky, you might even win back the cost of your trip!

Rome

The Eternal City is an eternal choice among lovers, with its cobbled streets, its intimate bars, its film-worthy fountains and its abundance of cosy family restaurants serving mouth-watering Italian dishes.

Nice

This jewel of the French Riviera can be a little pricey, but it's definitely worth it. Indulge together in the glamour of a town where the yachts of millionaires are moored in the harbour, and European royalty brushes shoulders with the Hollywood elite.

Vienna

The birthplace of cafés, and the home of the famous Opera House has plenty to offer the discerning couple with a taste for culture. Discover a wonderful music scene, and the delights of delicious Austrian pastry!

London

The one-time capital of the British Empire continues to attract couples from across the world with hotel reservations being very easy to make. With its combination of old-world elegance and a vibrant cosmopolitan atmosphere you can choose from restaurants offering every cuisine known to man, and many that quite frankly aren't.

Istanbul

The bridge between East and West could be the key to building a bridge between two couples. Unlike Leander, who in ancient myth swam the stretch of water between Europe and Asia every night to visit his lover Hero, you won't have to risk life and limb to come together in this fascinating and eclectic capital; intimacy will come naturally.

San Francisco

Way out west, there's a city that was founded by an order of Spanish monks. It was none other the funky and fabulous city of San Francisco, famed for the Golden Gate Bridge, the vintage trams and an incredible nightlife that offers much for gay couples in particular.

Paris

You can't escape it. Paris is the centre of romance with hotel bookings very easy to make due to the amount of hotels there are in the city. You don't need to hear about the gorgeous tree-lined avenues, the excellent restaurants, and the wonderful sights. They're best appreciated in person, so what are you waiting for?

A word of warning…

If you want to secure your dream destination for Valentine's Day, make sure you make your hotel reservations nice and early. Hotel bookings are made early, so to guarantee a room in your chosen city this February, start thinking about it now.
