The skiing season in France runs from the second week in December until the end of April. The busiest times for the activity are usually around the New Year, and through the months of February and March. The snow, however, is probably best in January. Though February is also excellent, the resorts are always booked way ahead of time.
Best ski spots
There are many beautiful places in the French Alps to ski. Chamonix is one of the oldest and largest ski resorts. It was the home of the Winter Olympics in 1924 and the views are breathtaking. The Val d'Isère is also a fantastic spot. The Face de Bellevarde was used in the 1992 Winter Olympics for the mens downhill races, and is still a popluar spot for the more serious skiiers.
Meribel is one of the largest ski areas in the world. Meribel chalets are the most well known accommodations in the area. They feature all inclusive packages, and the most catered chalets around. Enjoy breakfast before you head off skiing, return to afternoon tea and cakes, and end your evening with a three course meal with complimentary wine.
Your skiing experience will be hassle free. Professional fitters will come to your chalet to fit and deliver your skis and boots right to you! Spend more time skiing, and less time preparing, waiting and being stressed.
La Tania is the newest resort in the Three Valleys. Chalets in La Tania offer en-suite facilities, free Wi-Fi, CD and DVD player, SKY/Freeview TV, and even boot warmers! Relax after a long day of skiing in the Jacuzzi hot tubs or spa baths. These fully catered chalets also offer breakfast, afternoon tea and a mouth watering dinner with wine.
Ski Conditions
The snow is usually the best in January. The queue lines are also quite empty due to locals on holiday. December snow can be excellent or terrible. Check conditions if you can before your trip. February snow is great, but the school holidays will make the slopes jam packed with people. The snow in March starts to get slushy in the afternoon due to the warmer temperatures. Early skiing would be best.
Tips to make your holiday the best
-When booking your hotel or chalet, most of them book from Saturday-Saturday. Plan accordingly.
-Save yourself the hassle of lost luggage by carrying on your boot bag, packed with your ski outfit. This way you won't be lost if your luggage is.
-Daily lift passes are considerably more expensive than multi day passes.
-And double check with your resort if Wi-Fi is truly available in your room, or only in the lobby. Sometimes this is not made too clear.
And have fun skiing!
